Hip Replacement
Recovery

A Physical Therapist's Week-by-Week Guide to Prehab, Precautions, and Getting Strong

Most hip-replacement guides are written by surgeons, who hand the recovery off to "your physical therapist" and end the chapter. This one is written by the physical therapist. The surgery rebuilds the joint. The rehab rebuilds you.

Hip Replacement Recovery: A Physical Therapist's Week-by-Week Guide, by Nicolas Marchant

The part you
actually live through

Facing a hip replacement? Then you have probably already discovered the problem: everyone has advice, and half of it contradicts the other half.

The surgery itself is one day. The recovery is the months that follow: the precautions, the swelling, the sleepless nights, and the slow return of confidence. That is where this guide lives. It is written by a physiotherapist, drawing on the day-to-day clinical work of walking patients through exactly that stretch, and it is the only hip-replacement guide by a named PT that branches its entire recovery plan by surgical approach, anterior versus posterior, instead of treating every hip the same.

"The surgery rebuilds the joint. The rehab rebuilds you."

What's inside

The whole journey,
in plain language

You are not a statistic

Meet Margaret,
Daniel, and Rosa

Along the way you meet three patients who follow the journey with you. They are composites, drawn from hundreds of real patients, so you can see your own recovery in someone else's, whichever approach or situation is yours.

Margaret

Posterior approach. Living the precautions to the letter for six weeks, then learning to trust the hip again once they lift.

Daniel

Anterior approach, active and impatient. Learning that fewer restrictions still means pacing, not pushing.

Rosa

Recovering alone. Working through the home setup and the fear of dislocation that comes with no one else in the house.
